Medicare Dental Plans for Seniors—Senior Healthcare Advisors

Most individuals on Medicare need to look for additional dental insurance. Original Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B do not cover routine dental care such as fillings, dentures, crowns, or cleanings. It may cover specific dental expenses deemed an emergency or are related to surgery. If you are on Original Medicare and need dental insurance, you can purchase a separate dental plan or enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Medicare Part C) that includes dental benefits.

Medicare Advantage plans include other benefits such as dental, hearing, and vision. When looking for a Medicare Advantage plan that includes dental benefits, make sure you choose a dental plan that is specific to your needs. This can include routine cleanings, X-rays, exams, dentures, fillings, or treatment for gum disease. You should get the facts about cost sharing before making a decision. An estimated 94% (a vast majority) of seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans have access to dental benefits, however the type of coverage and price sharing's vary. A dental plan may cover X-rays and cleanings, but not root canals or fillings.
